SEPTA's Regional Rail lines provide service within Philadelphia and in the surrounding areas. The following lines are currently in service:

  • R1 Airport - Philadelphia International Airport to Central Philadelphia and Glenside
  • R2 Warminster - To Central Philadelphia, Wilmington and the Philadelphia International Airport
  • R2 Wilmington and Newark - To Central Philadelphia and Norristown
  • R3 West Trenton - To Central Philadelphia
  • R3 Media and Elwyn - To Central Philadelphia and West Trenton
  • R5 Lansdoyle and Doylestown - To Central Philadelphia, Paoli and Thorndale
  • R5 Paoli and Thorndale - To Central Philadelphia and Doylestown
  • R6 Norristown - To Central Philadelphia
  • R6 Cynwyd - To Central Philadelphia
  • R7 Chestnut Hill East and Trenton - To Central Philadelphia
  • R8 Chestnut Hill and Fox Chase - To Central Philadelphia

One aspect of the Regional Rail system which may cause some confusion to visitors and tourists is that all of the lines start outside the city at one terminus, run through 3 stations in Center City (specifically 30th Street Station, Suburban Station, and Market East Station), and continue through to the other terminus. So, for example, if you were in Center City and wanted to travel to Lansdale, travellers would have to make sure that they did not get on the R5 headed for Paoli.
